A Sad Day for Germany

It was a big event watching Germany get ready for the semi-final match with Italy and with high hopes we watched them lose in the last few minutes. I expected that the German fans would react with anger, frustration and even animosity towards the winners but they did not and accepted the result with dignity. Everything was back to normal today and the stores had FIFA soccer memorbilia on sale today. We will watch the other semi-final tonight as soccer fans love the game no matter who wins.
What really surprised me was the song that was played in English , (which I hear so rarely now), as the soccer players left the field: "You Never Walk Alone" and how this is a theological statement as well.
When we toured the churches in Wurzburg I was happy to see that these buildings that were bombed during the war were rebuilt mostly to reproduce the previous architecture which is historical. However new furnishings and modern artwork were added to reflect the post war mood of repentance and hope that God had not forsaken Germany and that the Christians had not walked alone in the post war period of depression and poverty. We believe this because Jesus also suffered for us and intimately knows our pain and poverty from the cross.
